I recently came across this list of cool HTML5 sites: 10 inspiring HTML5 sites you really should see.

I am particularly impressed with the SVG cartoons in Bifter (Desert Island Disks is even humorous :). I notice that they were created using Inkscape. I really must give it a try, because I have heard good reports about it!

This week I came across two more high-profile companies moving from apps to web app (HTML5) to avoid the Apple tax.

• Amazon’s Answer To Apple’s Terms: A Web-Based Kindle Cloud Reader — Brilliant On PC, Better On iPad
• Vudu Is Now Streaming To The iPad, Uses Web App To Avoid The App Store Revenue Tax

The other advantages that these developers will experience is that they no longer need to get approval from Apple (which can make planning and time lines difficult), and their apps are now cross-platform!

From Fall in online child pornography detections:

There was a significant drop in internet child pornography detected in Ireland last year according to a report by Hotline.ie.

… and …

Hotline.ie’s General Manager Paul Durrant said this showed the public was encountering less illegal content online and measures being taken by the industry and law enforcement agencies were successful.

Hmmm…. I suspect that this is really due to improved techniques for concealing content :o

When Apple recently announced that it was going to start taking a share of revenue on purchases made within applications on iDevices (yes – I made that name up) I thought that this would accelerate the move to HTML5 web apps.

The first significant player (at least that I am aware of) made the leap this week! The Financial Times! For more details read FT Bypasses Apple’s iTunes, Launches HTML5 Web App (Free Access First Week), and to download the app go to The new FT app for iPad and iPhone.

I really wonder if Apple has got the strategy wrong with this!

I have been made aware (thanks) of some interesting web client-server developments recently, so I will group them all together in this post!

• Do you find HTTP too slow? Then you might want to try SPDY! I am actually really impressed that it is already in use in Chrome! For more details see Life beyond HTTP 1.1: Google’s SPDY.
• Are you developing a web site with sensitive information? Then perhaps you should consider HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS)! See Strict Transport Security and Public Key Pinning for more interesting details! Actually, after reading DPI Doubts Deepen recently I am more convinced than ever of the need for using security!
• Finally, do you need to classify all of the APIs that you use? Yes – then look at Classification of HTTP-based APIs.

There are a lot of exciting developments there!

I received this humorous, if not somewhat innovate, spam email promoting a casino today:

hi bud, ok I`ll give you my trick but if you give it someone else I`ll fuckin kill you :)

you know in roulette you can bet on blacks or reds. If you bet $1 on black and it goes black you win $1 but if it goes red you loose your $1.

but I found a way you can win everytime:

bet $1 on black if it goes black you win $1

now again bet $1 on black, if it goes red bet $3 on black, if it goes red again bet $8 on black, if red again bet $20 on black, red again bet $52 on black (always multiple you previous lost bet around 2.5x), if now is black you win $52 so you have $104 and you bet:

$1 + $3 + $8 + $20 + $52 = $84 So you just won $20 :)

now when you won you start with $1 on blacks again etc etc. its always bound to go black eventually (it`s 50/50) so that way you eventually always win. But there`s a catch. If you start winning too much (like $1000 a day) casino will finally notice something and can ban

you. I was banned once on royal casino. So don`t be too greedy and don`t win more then $300 a day and you can do it for years. I think bigger casinos know that trick so I play for real money on smaller ones, right now I play on vip casino www.casino-url-removed.com for more

I updated my version of WordPress tonight. Unfortunately, each time I do this the size of my tag cloud is reset to 45 :( The instructions outlined in WordPress Categories and Tags no longer work. However, the instructions outlined in How To Customize The WordPress Tag Cloud work perfectly!

I am sure I will need to reference this page many times in the future!

All afternoon I have been hearing about Microsoft‘s acquisition of Skype! See Done Deal! Big Deal. Smart Deal? Microsoft Buys Skype For $8.5 Billion In Cash.

I am really surprised by this! Not so much that Skype has been sold, but more by the fact that Microsoft is the buyer!
